I decided to do some short vignettes of my veggie garden throughout the season. This vignette done in mid-July shows the area around the entry way. You’ll see flowers, leeks, beans, dill, fennel, cabbages, squash, rhubarb and grapes growing close to my entrance with my grape arbor. Flowers are an important part of my veggie garden attracting beneficial insects and pollinators besides adding beauty. Other short videos to follow. Please excuse my fingers in the video!

Cabbage?! In July?

yes it survives here nicely. The variety is called Kalibos, a purple cabbage from Eastern Europe. It will develop a cone shape when it is ready to harvest later like in September. Not sure why but it doesn’t bolt and is very sweet, can lasts for months in the refrigerator. And sooo beautiful.

Well it doesn’t say that on the package that it is heat tolerant but I tried it anyways and apparently it is.

Ah, I tried that with radish seed that I did not want to keep another year. It did not go well.
