Water your perennial plants in January

January, January 4, 2026

We’ve haven’t gotten precipitation since last November (2025) when we got 2 storms that produced 1 inch total at the property for the whole month. In December, we got no inches precipitation-well, maybe a trace, but really nothing. Looks like it’s going to be a dry winter.

Today is a good time to water your perennial plants if you haven’t already as it is going to be in the low 50’s today. Then the highs will be in the 40’s for tomorrow, Mon Jan 5 – Thursday, Jan 9th. On Friday, Jan 10, the high will be in the 30s making watering more challenging (frozen hoses-be sure to empty them) which is why I always water when it is above freezing and I always empty out my hose after each watering in winter.

So you’ll know what I’m doing today…

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Your email reminded me about the very sad loss of your kitty. I’m so sorry, it’s so hard to lose a beloved friend.

If you are thinking about getting another cat I’d like to tell you about Lola. I won’t go into all the details unless you are potentially interested, but I will be needing to rehome her at some point….I will need to move, I am 85, the writing is on the wall. She is a wonderful creature and deserves a good home, and I think you would give her that.

If you’d like to know more or come meet her get in touch. My phone is (505)438-8474

Back to the garden 💦 Happy New Year! Norma Cross

    • Hi Norma-Thanks for the offer but we are not ready for another cat at this time. Good luck in finding it a home. We got ours from Feline and Friends located in Petco on Cerrillos. They may be able to take it in and find it a home. They always make sure to place them in good homes-they are picky which is good. Just curious-is your cat an indoor or outdoor cat and male or female, long hair or short hair age and color. I’ll keep my eyes open if I hear of anyone interested.

        Hi Jannine,

        Thanks for your reply.

I adopted Lola from Felines and Friends in 2021, she was just over a year old. She is part Maine Coon, but small, has long hair and loves to be brushed. I live in town next to Agua Fria, I have a fenced yard, she goes in and out whenever she likes, but stays in the yard. She is a great cat, very smart and sweet. I would not bring her to petco, I will just wait for the right situation. I thought I sent a photo, but maybe it didn’t attach, I’ll send it again. Thanks again! Norma
