This year I’m organizing the tomatoes by how many days to harvest from day transplanted outside. Of course this is just an estimate depending on where you are growing them and other conditions. In the past, I’ve organized by color only, but wanted to get a better representation this year of early, mid, and late tomatoes. In the past, I’ve grown too many late tomatoes forcing me to wait all season. New varieties for me are in RED

SUMMER SQUASH
Rugosa Friulana-Does not attract squash bugs as much as other varieties of summer squash in my garden, but still some. These produce an abundance of light yellow, “warty” fruit. They aren’t beautiful, but they taste great. Doesn’t gets watery when cooked. This is the most common zucchini in the markets of Venice in summer.

Hi-
I joined Rocky Mountain Giant Vegetable Growers organization up in Colorado. For all members they give you a packet of giant seeds of pumpkins, squash, long gourds, etc. Since they are in our neighbor state, they have similar growing conditions, climate and soil and I have had better luck growing their seeds than ones I’ve purchased through other growers. You can google them and connect that way.

I saw one of your posts on Calabacita Squash … I order my calabacita seeds from bontanicalinterests.com. I came across your post as I am trying to figure out why my squash plants are blossoming but the blossoms fall off and I am not getting any squash. Looks like there may be a pollination problem … but I have tons of bees, so …?

Is it hot where you are? It’s possible that the pollination won’t take even if there are lots of bees when it is over 90 degrees. Blossoms can fall off or squash can stop growing, turn yellow and be stunted.

I purchased “Giant Marrow Squash” like the ones in your pictures and out of 10 seeds only one germinated? I have had lots of luck with the rest of my garden, Any ideas? -or- Might you have some Marrow Seeds you can spare or I can purchase from you?

I only have a few left so can’t spare any this year but if you let your marrow produce fruit, you can get your own from the giant marrows and it might be more aclimated to your area for next year.

Thanks, I just ordered some more Marrow seeds from P&P seed. Wish me luck maybe I will have better luck “this go around”

I love to watch your garden grow. You inspire me to become a great gardener.
I can’t wait until pumpkin season, you are the only other person I know that loves to grow giants in NM.
Your LG seed looks very promising. I am going to try one for the first time this year.
I can only grow 1 pumpkin, under a tree 250sq foot patch no soil test, so I hope it works out.

Hi Olin! Good to hear from you! Yes I’m getting ready to plant giant pumpkins this year and hope it goes better than last year. I noticed at the state fair your’s was smaller last year than your behemoth the year before. My biggest reached only 178 lbs last year after having to restart since a squirrel ate my biggest plant before we even got flowers. I didn’t even take it to the state fair. It’s exciting to know someone else is into growing giant pumpkins here in NM too! Good Luck this year and let me know how it’s going once in a while. May you also grow a monster!

Hi- Are you in Santa Fe area? Because I’m giving some away at the Home Grown Seed Exchange this year on Wed. March 18 from 4-6 at Frenchy’s Park in their barn. It is on Agua Fria and Osage intersection. If you can’t make it I can send you some but hope you can make it as the Seed Exchange is a great way to pick up veggie, herb and some flower seeds-all free. If you happen to have any seeds that you want to bring that would be great but is not required to get free seeds.
